Beauty Around the Corner – Juyuan Community, Jiading District

To address the daily needs and problems of residents at various areas and create an efficient, convenient and comfortable habitual environment, Juyuan Community has developed a long-term plan based on the current conditions of each area, and proposed the space optimizing and concept of “15-minute Community Life Circle” based on the Shanghai Planning Guidance to 15-minute Community Life Circle. The plan, aiming for “Tech Juyuan and Quality Juyuan”, is to optimize and upgrade existing greens, plazas, driveway greening, streets, lanes and affiliated public spaces, public transportation and public service system, and gradually build a network of community life circle which is able to benefit residences in the neighborhood. The network will offer basic service functions such as education, healthcare, sports, retail and public transportation, workspaces and activity spaces. These living and working destinations will be available to residents within 15 minutes’ walk. An accessible and user-friendly pedestrian system will connect residential quarters, public transportation stations, services and employers, forming a safe and comfortable slow-traffic environment and creating an ecological, dynamic and sharing home for the residents. (1) Accelerate the renovation of old neighborhoods and improve their living standards; (2) Accelerate in filling the gaps in public transportation and promote the building of smart city; (3) Refine public facilities and co-create a high-quality community culture; (4) Highlight ecological civilization and beautify urban greening; and (5) Emphasize the spiritual needs of residents and enhance ethical civilization.

Curatorial Program

With the theme of “Beauty Around the Corner”, the SUSAS 2021 Site Project of 15-minute Community Life Circle in Juyuan, Jiading will be held.

Activities include: Awarding ceremony of the 2019-2020 “Community Art” projects in Juyuan Community, competition for “Most Beautiful Spaces around Our Homes”, Map of Juyuan 15-minute Community Life Circle 2021, and official establishment of Alliance of Juyuan Community Planning Studios. Urban and Rural Planning Exhibition of Jiading New City and Juyuan. Accomplishment Exhibition of 15-minute Community Life Circle in Juyuan, Jiading. Open Call for Ideas of Urban Micro-regeneration. Exhibition of Young Planners’ Works. Love of Gallery: Exhibition of the Works of Youth Art Education. First Beishuiwan Lake Music Festival. Cultural Reunion of Juyuan and Longwan.

The activities will take the form of ceremony + performance.
