Haishen Village of Huinan Town, Pudong New Area covers an area of 318 hectares. It enjoys an excellent location with Huinan East Station of Metro Line 16 connecting the village with the city center and the new Lingang (Harbor) Area, and Pudong International Airport reachable in 20 minutes. For Haishen Village is home to Zhong Tianshi, an Olympic cycling champion, cycling has become a shining brand of Pudong and even Shanghai. Recently, Huinan Town, committed to the idea of “carry on its agricultural advantages and develop the agritourist industry”, has actively been constructing its demonstrative zone of rural revitalization, and initiated the pilot project of rural community life circle, with Haishen Village as the hub while collaborating with Qiaobei and Yuandong villages, aiming to construct a rural community that is suitable for living, working, outing, elderly care and studying.

The rural community life circle of Huinan Town consists of the shared sphere of Haishen, Qiaobei and Yuandong villages, and other villages as extended spheres. With guiding strategies of life, production, ecology and governance, it creates four community life scenarios: the primary scenario in the shared sphere for tourism and relaxation + Haishen scenario for art and cultural industry + Qiaobei scenario for nature and ecology and Yuandong scenario for neighborhood friendliness. During the period of SUSAS 2021, Huinan offers a rich portfolio of exhibitive experiences: the main exhibition of Xingxin Road Greenhouse at central Haishen village; nine other exhibitions which include Earthscape for the 100th Anniversary of the Communist Party of China, Hall of Haishen, Gallery of Zhong Tianshi, Archive of Shanghainese Countryside, History Museum of Haishen, Cycling and Straw Exhibition, Photography Exhibition of Rice Paddings, Floral Farm and Metro Station of Huinan East; and multiple service stations at Haishen, Qiaobei and Yuandong. These activities lead visitors to an idyllic life, feel the low-carbon, healthy lifestyle and quality, convenient and sharing services of villages in a sphere accessible by walking and cycling, and fully experience the dynamic, diversified rural community life circle, with its colorful and amicable neighborhood, pleasant rural funs and multi-stakeholder governance.

Theme: New Era, New Country, New Life

Content: the exhibition primarily focuses on the past, present and future of the demonstrative zone for rural revitalization at Huinan Town which centers on Haishen Village: 1. memories of Shanghainese countryside: rural stories of Shanghai, memories of Haishen and antique exhibition; 2. morphism of Haishen: favorable policies and guidance by the party committees, people’s governments, agencies of urban planning and natural resources and agencies of agricultural and rural affairs at the national, municipal and district levels, and the implementation processes in Huinan Town; 3. Demonstration and Leading: spaces worth reading (village and building designs), rice paddings for strolling (hygiene, ecological and beautified rural habitats) and heart-warming environment (cultural enterprise, stories of people who return to their home village and keynote speakers); 4. Promising Future: a place for people to stay (life circles of the three villages, visioning of Qiaobei and Yuandong). Let people experience an ideal 15-minute Rural Community Life Circle through the exhibitions and activities which focus on the new life of Haishen Village in the new era.
